Courses
All of our courses are clinically applicable and teach you how to apply theory to practice. We also promote interdisciplinary teamworking to inspire a patient-centred approach.
Upcoming Courses
Introduction to Clinical Reasoning
Clinical reasoning is a process in which a therapist, interacting with the patient and others (family carers etc), helps patients structure meaning, goals and health management strategies based on clinical data, patient choices and professional judgement and knowledge. Skill in making clinical decisions and plans, as well as critical self evaluation (based on reflective practice), are key to the delivery of high quality neurological rehabilitation.
An Overview of Motor Learning
Motor re-learning underpins a lot of neurological rehabilitation. Understanding how to structure task specific practice to optimise success is an important role for therapists. This lecture will provide an overview of motor learning theory and application to practice.
An Introduction to Using Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation in Neurological Rehabilitation
Do you work with clients with neurological conditions? Do you want to optimise their motor recovery and function? This workshop will hone your skills and ability using NMES to augment different motor functions, reduce swelling and spasticity, and support task specific training.
FND – Dissociative Episodes
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. In contrast, dissociative attacks are considered a type of FND, as they result from a temporary dysfunction in the nervous system without abnormal electrical activity. Understanding these distinctions is vital for therapists to enhance patient care and treatment outcomes.
Assessment and Management of Hypertonia
Hypertonia is a common and disabling impairment in many neurological conditions. This session will provide updates on pathophysiology and evidence based non-pharmacological management of adaptive muscle shortening and focal spasticity.
Managing UL Pain Post ABI
Persistent pain is a common feature of neurological conditions, including stroke, TBI, MS and PD. This case study will explore co-existing dystonia and complex regional pain syndrome in a person with hemiplegia following brain injury.
Use of Botulinum Toxin in Spasticity Management
This session will cover the practicalities of assessment for botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) injection for focal spasticity, establishing client based goals and delivering effective, evidence based treatment to optimise outcomes.
Cognitive and Perceptual Deficits and Their Impact on Movement
Functional mobility is also limited by non motor impairments. This case study and discussion will explore how cognitive and perceptual deficits impact motor function.
An Introduction to Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

It’s All About the Trunk
A complex case study exploring how addressing the trunk can be central to achieving function in a client with neurological impairments living in the community.
How Attention Deficits Affect Your Client Management
Cognitive deficits have a significant impact on the outcome of our neurological clients. Deficits in attention are common across the spectrum of neurology. This session will include a brief overview of attention networks, identification of deficits in your patients and adapting your intervention.
Complex UL – Reach and Grasp
Upper limb deficits after stroke are complex, often involving deficits of motor and sensory function as well as perceptual dysfunction. This session will explore the clinical reasoning, considerations and intervention options for a variety of presentations.

Assessment and Management of Hypertonia
Hypertonia is a common and disabling impairment in many neurological conditions. This session will provide updates on pathophysiology and evidence based non-pharmacological management of adaptive muscle shortening and focal spasticity.
Cognition – Identifying Deficits and Providing Intervention During Occupational Performance
This is a one-day course for occupational therapists.
This course is focussed on providing occupational therapists with the skills to effectively identify the cognitive and perceptual deficits of their neurological patients and provide effective, practical intervention. It will consider how cognition and perception are linked to function and how we can provide intervention that is functional taking into account cognitive and perceptual impairments. It will also focus on communicating findings and plans for intervention to the MDT and carers involved. It is focussed primarily on patients with strokes and head injuries, rather than progressive neurological disorders.
Cognition – Identifying Deficits and Providing Intervention for People with Strokes and Other Acquired Brain Injuries
A one-day course for Occupational Therapists.
This workshop will be suitable for clinicians working with people with acquired brain injuries e.g. stroke and head injuries. After the workshop you will have a good understanding of cognition, be able to identify difficulties in cognition within function and where to focus your screening, assessment and intervention.
Cognitive and Perceptual Deficits and Their Impact on Movement
Functional mobility is also limited by non motor impairments. This case study and discussion will explore how cognitive and perceptual deficits impact motor function.
Combined Workshop for OTs Visual Perception and Goal Directed Movement
A half-day morning ‘Visual processing and visual perception’ workshop for Occupational Therapists and a half-day afternoon workshop “Voluntary goal directed movement – apraxia’ for Occupational Therapists.
Complex UL – Reach and Grasp
Upper limb deficits after stroke are complex, often involving deficits of motor and sensory function as well as perceptual dysfunction. This session will explore the clinical reasoning, considerations and intervention options for a variety of presentations.
Concussion Management for Clinicians
This is a one-and-a-half-day course covering the basic pathophysiology as well as the principles of concussion management for therapists looking to advance their knowledge and skill in this field. It is a combination of theory, practical sessions and case studies
Facilitating the Upper Limb During Occupational Performance
This is a one-day course for occupational therapists. This course will be focussed on considering how we can facilitate the upper limb during our ADL training with a patient. It will be about techniques to prepare the upper limb during rehabilitation sessions and how to incorporate the upper limb during ADLs thereby increasing intensity, repetition and daily usage.
FND – Dissociative Episodes
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. In contrast, dissociative attacks are considered a type of FND, as they result from a temporary dysfunction in the nervous system without abnormal electrical activity.
